A former Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adebayo Mutalubi Ojo, has urged residents to support Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for governor in the 2027 governorship election.
Ojo, an Ibadan-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said Alli possessed the administrative experience needed to lead Oyo State and move it towards what he described as an enviable position.
The former justice commissioner made the call in a personally signed statement issued on Thursday, September 24, in which he outlined the qualities he believes the state needs in its next governor.
Titled “A Governor That Oyo State Needs In 2027,” the statement described the kind of leadership Ojo wants to see in the state after the next governorship election.
According to him, Oyo State needs a governor who is an astute administrator, compassionate and selfless, while remaining independent in the discharge of his responsibilities.
He also called for a leader who would not pursue personal interests through public office.
“Going forward, Oyo State deserves a Governor who is an astute Administrator and who is very compassionate, selfless, not a rent or an arbitrage seeker, not a wheeler-dealer, not a covetous and gluttonous property craze, not a treacherous person, not a pretender, but a firm, independent and not a protege or stooge,” Ojo stated.
The former attorney general subsequently identified Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, as his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
He urged residents to support the APC senator, linking his appeal to what he described as the need to liberate the state from certain practices in land administration and governance.
“I urge people to support Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli of APC as the next Governor of Oyo State if you truly love Oyo State and you want a liberated Oyo State from modern-day Emperor and Government Reservation Areas Land Merchants,” he said.
Ojo’s statement comes amid political activities and emerging discussions ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
Alli, a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government and current senator representing Oyo South, is among the political figures associated with the APC’s preparations for the next governorship contest.
