A 55-year-old motorist escaped without injury after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Ikeja, Lagos State, on Friday, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged.

The incident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Although the impact severely damaged the vehicle, no injuries or deaths were reported at the scene.

LASTMA operatives, working alongside security personnel, rescued the driver and facilitated the removal of the wreckage from the railway tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey towards Agege.

Photographs shared by the agency showed extensive damage to part of the Honda car following the collision.

However, the incident caused traffic congestion around the PWD axis, disrupting vehicular movement along the affected route.

LASTMA said the damaged vehicle was subsequently handed over to security personnel to facilitate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the operatives and security personnel for their prompt response and coordinated efforts during the rescue operation.

He also urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and warned against attempting to cross the tracks when a train is approaching or already in motion.

LASTMA reiterated the importance of obeying traffic and railway safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents and protect lives.
