The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects, recovered three firearms and 25 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, and impounded eight vehicles during security and traffic enforcement operations across the state.
The operations, conducted between September 16 and 26, also led to the recovery of two suspected stolen vehicles, mobile phones and assorted electrical materials.
Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the developments in a statement on Sunday, attributing the results to targeted operations, intelligence gathering and proactive policing under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni.
According to the command, the operations covered several divisions and specialised units, with investigations ongoing into the various cases.
Police arrest suspected vehicle thieves in Ogun
Detectives attached to the Owode Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle at Mokoloki Village on September 17, following a complaint received a day earlier.
Two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, were arrested in connection with the alleged theft, while an accomplice identified as Saheed remains at large.
The police said efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect as investigations continued.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Olorunda Division intercepted three persons on Ayetoro Road on September 19 while they were allegedly conveying stolen electrical materials on a motorcycle.
Two suspects, Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, were arrested, while another suspect, Tosin, escaped.
Items recovered included bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box and a circuit breaker box, which the police said were allegedly stolen from a residence in the area.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit from Base 7, Abule-Iroko, arrested three suspects around Dalemo, Ota, on September 21.
The suspects, identified as Olamide Ayandele, 30, Tope Samuel, 40, and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30, were reportedly intercepted while travelling in an unregistered tricycle and an unregistered TVS motorcycle.
According to the police, preliminary investigations linked them to alleged vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis.
The command said investigations were continuing to identify and apprehend other persons who might be connected with the alleged activities.
Police recover 25 ATM cards in alleged N2.5m fraud
In another operation, operatives of the Igbesa Division arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Ameachine Anthony, on September 22 over an alleged N2.5 million fraud.
The police said 25 ATM cards and multiple mobile phones were recovered from the suspect.
Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that the alleged scheme involved utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards, which associates allegedly used to facilitate the opening of bank accounts.
The ATM cards were subsequently collected for alleged fraudulent transactions, according to the command.
The suspect and recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Three arrested, firearms recovered
Also on September 22, SWAT operatives arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, following intelligence about a suspected cult-related gathering.
Further investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, Adebayo Sodiq, 36, while operatives recovered one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.
The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and identify other persons connected with the case.
In a separate development, detectives from the Ijebu-Ode Area Crime Office recovered a Safira vehicle reportedly taken from its owner.
The operation also resulted in the arrest of Olatunji Olalekan following what the command described as discreet investigations, intelligence gathering and tracking.
The recovered vehicle has been secured as an exhibit while investigations continue into its disappearance and recovery.
Ogun police impound eight vehicles at Sagamu interchange
Separately, personnel of the Sagamu Area Command and adjoining divisions impounded eight vehicles during a traffic enforcement operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge on September 26.
The police said the vehicles were found obstructing the highway during a “No Parking” operation aimed at improving traffic flow and road safety.
According to the command, the affected vehicles are scheduled to be processed for prosecution on September 28, 2026.
It added that similar enforcement operations would continue as necessary.
CP Bode Ojajuni commended officers for their vigilance and professionalism, while appreciating members of the public for their cooperation.
