The Ogun State Police Command arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of being a vehicle theft kingpin after operatives recovered a stolen Toyota Camry along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The suspect, identified as Mosuru Issa of Osungboye Street, Agege, Lagos State, was arrested by officers of the Mowe Police Division during a stop-and-search operation along the Mowe axis on Friday, September 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred at about 7:30am when officers flagged down a wine-coloured Toyota Camry carrying three occupants for a routine security check.
Police said the occupants suddenly abandoned the vehicle and fled in different directions after sighting the officers, prompting the operatives to give chase.
Issa was apprehended, and the Toyota Camry was recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was allegedly stolen on 7 September 2026 from where it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State,” the statement said.
Following the discovery, the suspect was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Police authorities said efforts were underway to identify and locate the owner of the recovered vehicle, while operatives were also working to apprehend the two other occupants who escaped during the incident.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for what he described as vigilance, professionalism and a swift response.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained operations aimed at protecting lives and property while disrupting vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across Ogun State.
The Command also urged vehicle owners to strengthen security around their cars, particularly when parking in public places or other unsecured locations.
It advised motorists to consider basic anti-theft measures such as tyre locks, steering locks and other security devices to reduce the risk of vehicle theft.
The arrest comes amid continuing police efforts to tackle criminal activities along major transport corridors in Ogun, including routes connecting the state with Lagos and other parts of the country.
