A 93-year-old candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sokunle Oladimeju, is among the 638 candidates listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the January 2027 House of Representatives election across the six Southwest states.
The nonagenarian is listed as the SDP candidate for the Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency of Lagos State in INEC’s final list of candidates.
Probably the oldest across the country, the commission records his age as 93 and his gender as male.
His inclusion stands out in a list featuring candidates of different ages and from a wide range of political parties contesting seats in the House of Representatives across the region.
The INEC document, signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC Secretary, and titled “Presidential and National Assembly Elections for Jan, 2027 – House of Representatives, Final List of Candidates,” also contains candidates’ names, political parties, ages, gender, qualifications and, where applicable, disability information.
Lagos leads Southwest with 184 candidates
Lagos has the highest number of candidates in the Southwest, with 184 names on the final list.
Oladimeju’s entry appears among the candidates for Amuwo-Odofin, where the list also includes candidates from parties such as the Action Alliance (A), African Democratic Party (ADP), Accord (APP), All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Movement (APM), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
The list illustrates the breadth of the contest in Lagos, with candidates spanning established and smaller political parties.
Oyo records 151 candidates
Oyo State follows Lagos with 151 candidates listed for the House of Representatives election.
The final entry in the Oyo section includes Folahanmi Adisa, the SDP candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
INEC records Adisa as 54 years old and male, with SSCE listed as his qualification.
The Oyo list also shows substantial multi-party participation. Candidates are listed under parties including the APC, PDP, ADC, ADP, APM, Labour Party, NDC, PRP, SDP and others across the state’s federal constituencies.
Ogun has 95 candidates
INEC’s final list contains 95 candidates from Ogun State.
Among the candidates listed is Efuwape Olufunmilayo Temidayo, the APC candidate for Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North. She is listed as 50 years old and female, with Albinism recorded in the PWD column.
The same constituency features candidates from several other parties, including the Action Alliance, African Action Congress, ADC, APM, Labour Party, NDC, PDP, SDP, YPP and ZLP.
Ondo lists 91 candidates
Ondo State has 91 candidates on the final House of Representatives list.
The candidates include people contesting constituencies such as Akoko North East/Akoko North West, Akoko South East/Akoko South West, Ondo East/Ondo West and Owo/Ose.
For Owo/Ose, INEC lists candidates including Adeleegbe Oluwatimehin Emmanuel of the APC, Ogunribido Bukola Olaosebikan of the Labour Party, Omodara Feyidupe of the NRM, Ogunoye Ademola Benson of the NDC and Gabriel Adepoyigi of the SDP.
Osun records 81 candidates
Osun has 81 candidates on the list.
The final entries in the state’s section include Alabi Sunday Olabisi of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), aged 67; Afeni Tayo Eunice of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), aged 31; and Razaq Mubarak Mustapha of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), aged 41.
The list also reflects competition among a broad range of parties in the state’s federal constituencies.
Ekiti has 36 candidates
Ekiti has the smallest number of candidates among the six Southwest states, with 36 listed for the House of Representatives election.
The Ado Ekiti/Irepodun/Ifelodun constituency, for instance, includes candidates from the ADP, ADC, APC, NNPP, NDC, PDP and YPP, among others.

Taken together, the final INEC list records 638 candidates across Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti for the House of Representatives election.

A crowded field across the Southwest

The spread is particularly notable in Oyo, Ogun and Ondo, where individual constituencies often have more than 10 candidates. The Oyo list, for example, reaches 151 candidates across its constituencies, while Ogun has 95 and Ondo 91.
