The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the deaths of three siblings whose bodies were discovered on their father’s farm in Akure, the state capital.
The victims, identified as 11-year-old twins Joshua and Jacob Jonah, and their five-year-old sister, Blessing Jonah, were found dead near the bank of a small river within the farm.
The incident occurred around the Owena Army Barracks area of Akure, with the bodies reportedly discovered on Saturday, September 5, 2026, a day after the children were last seen alive.
The tragedy has plunged residents of Oke Ogba, where the family lives, into mourning.
According to the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the three children had accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farm on Friday, September 4.
Jimoh said the children later left the farm to return home while their father remained behind to continue his work.
However, concern arose after Samuel returned home several hours later and discovered that the children were not there.
The family subsequently launched a search for the siblings, which led to the discovery of their bodies the following day on the farm.
“The Ondo State Police Command confirms the tragic loss of three siblings at a farm located around the Owena Army Barracks, Akure, on 4th September 2026,” Jimoh said in a telephone confirmation of the incident.
He added that the children, Joshua Jonah, 11; Jacob Jonah, 11, his twin brother; and Blessing Jonah, five, had reportedly accompanied their father to the farm before leaving for home.
“They later left the farm for home, but were discovered missing when their father returned home. A search was subsequently conducted and on 5th September 2026, the bodies of the three children were discovered around the bank of a small river within the farm,” the police spokesperson said.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Jimoh said the police were documenting the incident and investigating to establish what led to the deaths of the children.
He also disclosed that the bodies had been taken by their father for burial.
The command did not disclose whether any arrests had been made or whether foul play had been established, stressing that the investigation was ongoing.
