Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Thursday visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as part of his ongoing consultations in Abuja following his re-election.
A photograph of the meeting, shared on X by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, showed Adeleke and Wike shaking hands while jointly holding the governor’s certificate of return.
Olayinka captioned the photograph: “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”
The visit came shortly after Adeleke met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Adeleke arrived at the Villa at about 5:20 p.m., dressed in traditional attire and accompanied by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and some Osun State officials, including his campaign director-general and chief of staff.
During the closed-door meeting with Tinubu, the governor presented his certificate of return and thanked the president for what he described as the conduct of a credible electoral process during the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling 511,067 votes.
He defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The governor won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas.
Speaking to State House correspondents after he met with Tinubu, Adeleke said the president deserved commendation for allowing the electoral process to proceed without interference.
He said his visit to the Presidential Villa was primarily to express appreciation to Tinubu, whom he referred to as the “father of the nation”, for respecting the democratic process.
“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.
“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria,” Adeleke said.
His subsequent meeting with Wike forms part of the governor’s engagements in Abuja following his victory at the polls.
