The Oyo State Government has lifted the security curfew earlier imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who said residents in the affected local government areas are now free to resume their normal daily activities.
The state government had introduced a 16-hour curfew as part of efforts to bolster security and enable security agencies to intensify operations following the recent abduction of pupils and teacher from schools in Oriire Local Government.
The restriction, covering communities 10 local government areas around the old Oyo National Park, was later extended by an additional day on Thursday to support ongoing security operations.
According to Oyelade, the decision to lift the curfew reflects the government’s confidence in the progress made by security agencies in addressing the situation.
He expressed appreciation to residents for their patience, cooperation and understanding during the enforcement of the restriction, noting that their support contributed significantly to the security efforts.
The commissioner reiterated the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, assuring residents that security agencies remain on alert and are closely monitoring developments to sustain peace and public safety.
He added that efforts are still underway to ensure a successful resolution of the kidnapping incident and restore complete normalcy to the affected communities.
The state government urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing operations.
