Men of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered a firearm, cash and other exhibits during a follow-up operation linked to the rescue of an abducted victim in the state.

The command disclosed that the operation was conducted by its Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and curb violent crimes across Ogun State.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the case originated from the abduction of a resident at Ogbe Village on June 11, 2026.

Following the report, the police activated intelligence and tactical teams to secure the victim’s release and track down members of the kidnapping gang.

The command said sustained surveillance, intelligence gathering and operational pressure eventually forced the kidnappers to release the victim unharmed on June 18.

With the victim safely rescued, investigators intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the suspects behind the crime.

Babaseyi stated that operatives later acted on credible intelligence that led them to the gang’s hideout within the state.

He explained that the suspects opened fire on the police team upon sighting the operatives in an attempt to evade arrest.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives successfully traced members of the gang to their hideout within the state.

“On sighting the operatives, the suspects opened fire in a desperate attempt to resist arrest and escape.

“The operatives responded professionally, leading to a gun duel during which two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with gunshot injuries,” the statement said.

A search conducted after the exchange of gunfire led to the recovery of a single-barreled gun from one of the deceased suspects.

Police also recovered an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and ₦2.2 million in cash believed to be proceeds of criminal activities.

The command noted that efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and broaden investigations into the gang’s operations.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its bravery, professionalism and effectiveness.

Ojajuni said the outcome of the operation underscored the command’s resolve to relentlessly pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals threatening public safety in the state.

He assured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing strategies and tactical operations to safeguard lives and property.

The commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
