The legal adviser to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Sunday Aborisade, has debunked the insinuation that the delay in the release of final results of the party’s primaries recently held across the country was to allow the leadership to manipulate the results in favour of their preferred candidates.

During a telephone interview with WestNG on Tuesday, Aborisade said the party hierarchies are exploring the grace period provided in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable to look at grievances raised by members concerning the conduct of the primaries.

“You’ll recall that some members were dissatisfied with the conduct and results in their respective constituencies. And, in line with the provisions of our constitution, many of them have filed petitions to seek redress.

“The party thereafter set up appeal panels to look into those complaints. The leadership is already taking action on the findings,” he said.

Aborisade also stated that the main reason the party is not rushing to make public the list of winners in the primary elections is to ensure that justice is done as necessary and that tension generated during the elections is diffused in the collective interest of the party.

“We can’t afford to go to the all-important general elections with a divided house. Apart from ensuring that all genuine cases are sorted accordingly, there is also the need to find a way of resolving all issues so that we will all work towards the success of our party in the forthcoming elections as one family,” he quipped.

However, Aborisade declined to give a specific date for when the party would release the final list of its candidates for the 2027 general elections.

“Very soon”, he vaguely replied when asked, without offering further information

Following a slight alteration to its timetable, the APC held primary elections across the country from May 16 to 23 to pick among members who aspired to vie for elective positions in the 2027 polls under its platform.

Though the deadline set by INEC for parties to submit the names of their candidates for the general election elapses this month, none of the existing political parties has complied so far.
