The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the successful rescue of a younger sister of the former minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, who were abducted earlier this week in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, regained freedom on Saturday evening after operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) tracked down their abductors in a coordinated intelligence-led operation
According to the police, the rescue operation took place at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Ibadan, three days after the victims were kidnapped while on their way to school.
The family was reportedly abducted around 7:30 a.m. on June 3 while Mrs. Adegoke was driving her children to school in the Oyo State capital.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police said the victims were rescued unharmed following sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations carried out by the FID-IRT.
The statement explained that investigators successfully monitored the movements of the kidnappers, leading to a confrontation between the suspects and police operatives.
During the exchange, two suspected members of the kidnapping gang were fatally wounded, while security personnel recovered two rifles from the scene.
“The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations. These efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, resulting in a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives,” the statement said.
Police authorities disclosed that the rescued victims are currently receiving medical attention and support in safe custody.
The Inspector-General of Police also commended the operatives involved in the mission, praising their professionalism, courage, and resilience throughout the operation.
According to the statement, efforts have been intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate believed to have escaped during the confrontation.
Preliminary intelligence reports indicated that some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter with security operatives.
The police assured residents that ongoing operations are aimed at tracking down and prosecuting every individual connected to the abduction.
“The Nigeria Police Force appreciates the public’s support, cooperation, and patience during the operation. We remain committed to combating violent crime, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the statement added.
The incident had generated anxiety in Ibadan and the surrounding areas following the abduction in broad daylight earlier in the week.
The latest rescue operation comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping and violent crimes in different parts of the country, with security agencies under pressure to strengthen intelligence gathering and rapid response efforts.
