No fewer than four persons have been confirmed dead following a road accident that occurred on Thursday evening at Omi Asoro Junction along the Ilesa-Akure Expressway in Osun State.

The crash, which happened around 9pm, also left 10 other passengers injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Confirming the incident on Friday, the Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the FRSC, Agnes Ogungbemi, said three victims died instantly at the scene, while another passenger later died on Friday morning.

Ogungbemi disclosed that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus and a Suzuki commercial mini-bus.

She explained that among the deceased were two adult males and a female child, while the fourth victim succumbed to injuries hours after the crash.

“Four people died while 10 others sustained injuries. Three of the victims, two male adults and a female child, died instantly. Another passenger died this morning. The remains of the deceased have been taken to Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.

“Those injured include seven adults and three children. The accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial vehicle and a Suzuki commercial mini-bus. The driver of the mini-bus had no driver’s licence,” Ogungbemi stated.

Although official details surrounding the cause of the crash were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, eyewitnesses said the collision involved a commercial bus travelling towards Akure and an intra-city mini-bus operating within Ilesa metropolis.

A trader near the accident scene, identified simply as Tobi, said the Toyota bus was transporting phone accessories and electronic appliances before it collided with the mini-bus at Omi Asoro Junction.

The latest incident came barely 24 hours after another fatal road accident in Ogun State claimed five lives along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway.

The Ogun crash, which occurred around Iyana Egbado at about 11:12am on Thursday, reportedly left 10 other passengers injured after a lone vehicle accident.
