President Bola Tinubu has pledged to place Nigeria on an “irreversible path of economic expansion and democratic consolidation” if re-elected for another four-year term in 2027.

The declaration came on Sunday in Abuja, during his acceptance speech after he emerged as the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the party’s presidential primary election.

Tinubu secured a landslide victory over his only challenger, businessman and APC chieftain Stanley Osifo, polling 10,999,162 votes against Osifo’s 16,503 votes.

The results were announced by Pius Anyim, chairman of the APC Presidential Primaries Election Committee.

Speaking after receiving the party’s flag and certificate of return from APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Tinubu expressed appreciation to party members for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to national development.

“In accepting this nomination, I renew my commitment to serve our nation with even greater determination,” the president said.

“With another four years of discipline, focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructural development, food sovereignty and democratic consolidation.”

The president acknowledged the economic hardship faced by Nigerians following key reforms introduced by his administration since assuming office in 2023, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms.

“You have given me the encouragement. Sometimes it is difficult, and I share the pain with you. I know what it is to reform an economy that was in tatters. If you lost sleep, I lost some too,” Tinubu said.

“If you have lost weight, I think I have lost some too. But I have always remembered one thing: in 2022, I asked for this job, you all supported me, and I got it, so I must do it.”

Tinubu also highlighted several initiatives implemented under his administration, including the student loan scheme, tax reforms and infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic growth and social development.

According to the president, more than ₦282 billion has been disbursed to about 1.5 million beneficiaries under the student loan programme.

He further promised to improve electricity supply, expand opportunities for young Nigerians and strengthen support for businesses across the country if re-elected in 2027.

On security, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling banditry and other forms of criminality, assuring Nigerians of intensified efforts to restore peace and stability nationwide.

The president also urged citizens not to become complacent or allow politicians without “clear alternative visions” to distract the country from its developmental goals.

He described the 2027 general election as an opportunity to reaffirm Nigeria’s democratic maturity and sustain ongoing reforms.
