The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended members of the party for the peaceful conduct of its House of Representatives primary elections held across the state, while urging aggrieved aspirants to pursue lawful and constitutional means in addressing their grievances.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party congratulated successful candidates, aspirants and party members for what it described as a successful and sportsmanlike exercise.
The party also appealed to candidates and their supporters to avoid inflammatory comments and statements capable of causing division within the APC ahead of the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the primary elections produced candidates who should enjoy the support of all party stakeholders in the overall interest of the APC.
The statement read in part, “There’s no winner and no vanquished in this sportsmanlike National Assembly primary election as our party and the entire people of the state were the overall winners of the elections.
“It is apposite to remind the emerged candidates of the need to use their victory as a potent political tool to consolidate the oneness and cohesion of the party in preparation for the major elections ahead where the efforts of all and sundry shall be needed for the success of all our candidates during the general election.”
Despite the conclusion of the primaries, official results for several federal constituencies were still being awaited as of Sunday evening, prompting supporters of various aspirants to flood social media platforms with unofficial results claiming victory for their preferred candidates.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of the Osun APC Primary Election Committee, Bayo Ayo, assured journalists in Osogbo that the committee was still collating results from local government areas and federal constituencies.
“We are still collating the results of the exercise and as soon as we are done with it, the outcome will be announced for the populace,” Ayo said.
“Be rest assured that we are doing a credible job here, there is nothing to hide from our side. We will make the names of the winners available to journalists.”
Meanwhile, Sanya Omirin, the lawmaker representing Atakunmosa East-West/Ilesa East-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, emerged as the APC consensus candidate for the constituency.
Omirin secured the ticket during an affirmation exercise held at the Ilesa East APC Local Government Office, attended by other aspirants including Babatunde Ayeni and Oluwole Komolafe.
In his acceptance speech, Omirin praised the aspirants for stepping down in the interest of party unity and pledged to work for the APC’s success in both the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
Also speaking, Oluremi Omowaiye, Chairman of the APC Media Committee for the governorship election, said the peaceful conduct of the primary reflected the party’s determination to reclaim power in Osun State.
“Against what opposition has said, we have had a largely peaceful primary. In Ijesa South, we adopted consensus arrangement and it worked out,” Omowaiye stated.
“We commend other aspirants for accepting party supremacy. APC will continue to work towards a common goal of winning the next governorship and the 2027 general elections in the state.”
In Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, Oluwole Oke, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, also emerged winner of the APC ticket.
