The Lagos State Police Command has received additional operational assets from the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) ahead of the planned launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) as part of ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

The initiative is being implemented under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to strengthen policing operations and improve public safety across the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said the newly acquired assets would enhance crime prevention and rapid response operations throughout Lagos State.

According to the statement, the equipment provided by the LSSTF includes two operational vehicles, 50 ballistic helmets, 50 bulletproof vests, and 50 ballistic shields.

The Command explained that the assets are intended to improve the operational capacity, safety, and effectiveness of personnel attached to the newly established Violent Crime Response Unit.

The Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Ayodele Ogunsan, presented the items to the police authorities and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the state.

He said the trust fund would continue to provide critical operational equipment and logistics required for effective policing and public safety.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Command, Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for the support.

Fatai noted that the operational assets would significantly improve the readiness of the Violent Crime Response Unit and strengthen the Command’s ability to combat violent crimes and respond swiftly to emergencies.

He added that the Command remains committed to effective policing, proactive crime prevention, and improved public safety in line with the ongoing reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.
