The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned six-hour electricity outage that will affect several communities in Ogun State.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 14, 2026, via its official X account, the company said the temporary power interruption is necessary to allow engineers to carry out scheduled maintenance on the 40MVA 132/33KV transformer at the McPherson Transmission Substation.

According to TCN, the maintenance exercise will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is part of routine preventive checks designed to maintain the efficiency and reliability of the transformer.

The company explained that the maintenance work would temporarily affect power supply to customers served by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company in the McPherson University and Ogunmakin areas.

TCN noted that the exercise is intended to improve electricity service delivery and minimise the possibility of unforeseen faults within the transmission network.

Speaking on the development, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, Ndidi Mbah, said the maintenance was essential to ensure the continued optimal performance of the transformer.

“The maintenance exercise is to enable TCN crew to undertake preventive routine checks on the transformer to ensure continued optimal performance. Consequently, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to its customers in McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin during the period of the maintenance,” she stated.

The transmission company also appealed to residents and business owners in the affected communities to bear with the temporary inconvenience, assuring them that efforts would be made to complete the maintenance work as scheduled.
