In a significant development, Tunde Lemo, erstwhile deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has withdrawn his governorship bid in Ogun State and thrown his support behind Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi), endorsing him as the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 election.
Lemo announced his decision in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta, following “deep reflection and wide consultations” with party leaders and stakeholders.
Citing a “deliberate, strategic alignment for the greater good”, Lemo expressed confidence in the APC leadership’s judgment and acknowledged that party elders believe Adeola possesses the capacity to build on the current administration’s gains under Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The consensus arrangement, he noted, aims to foster unity across Ogun State’s three senatorial zones and strengthen the party’s electoral prospects.
Reflecting on past disunity, Lemo called for unity among party members, urging them to mobilise behind Adeola’s campaign.
The former top banker pledged to leverage his finance, enterprise, and public policy background to support the party’s victory and effective governance.
He thanked APC leadership, traditional rulers, and Ogun State residents for their continued confidence in him.
Lemo’s declaration comes two days after the Ogun APC formally adopted Adeola as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The decision was announced at a state strategic caucus meeting held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday.
