The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State has announced plans to commence an aggressive membership drive, including fresh registration and the updating of its membership register nationwide.
The State Chairman, Yinka Olona, made the disclosure on Saturday during a grand unveiling ceremony for new members in the Oyo North Senatorial District.
Held at AUD Primary School, Ebedi, in Iseyin Local Government Area, the event attracted party leaders, aspirants, and supporters from across the district.
Olona, who received defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP), urged party members to remain steadfast and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the registration exercise.
“Our party will soon begin an aggressive membership drive with the registration and updating of the membership register across the country,” Olona stated. “The exercise will commence soon. Let me assure our teeming members, particularly the new entrants, of equal opportunities and a level playing ground.”
He stressed the need for transparency and credibility in the process, assuring members that the party leadership would ensure fairness throughout the exercise.
In separate goodwill messages, governorship aspirants Niyi Aborisade, Gbemileke Eleniyan, and Akim Yusuf underscored the importance of unity and collective ambition within the party. They urged members to prioritise shared objectives over personal political interests.
The aspirants pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate in future elections, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the ADC’s internal cohesion and electoral prospects.
They also expressed concern over the proposed amendment to the Electoral Act, advocating for real-time electronic transmission of election results to enhance transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Party leaders at the state and local government levels, alongside members of the Oyo State Membership Mobilisation, Revalidation and Registration Committee, attended the unveiling ceremony.
Organisers described the gathering as a reflection of the ADC’s growing influence and consolidating unity in Oyo North.
