The Oyo State House of Assembly has formally indicted a minority lawmaker, Ibrahim Shittu, following allegations of defamation levelled against him by the Majority Leader of the House, Sanjo Adedoyin.
The indictment was announced during the House plenary held on Tuesday in Ibadan, after the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges concluded its investigation into the matter.
Shittu, who represents the Saki West State Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a member of the minority caucus and has been involved in a series of confrontations within the Assembly in recent months.
Presenting the committee’s findings, the chairman of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Gbenga Oyekola, disclosed that both Shittu and Adedoyin appeared before the panel on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
According to him, the committee established that Shittu’s conduct amounted to a breach of the Assembly’s rules and ethical standards.
“The committee carefully reviewed submissions from both parties and found that the actions of Hon. Ibrahim Shittu contravened the principles guiding the conduct of members of this House,” Oyekola told lawmakers during the plenary.
Though Shittu tendered an apology on the floor of the House, the Assembly rejected the plea, insisting that the matter required further scrutiny in line with legislative procedures.
Consequently, the House resolved to refer the case back to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges for additional action.
