The police in Lagos State on Friday arraigned two men before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ikeja over the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl.

The defendants, Prince Tomnyie, 40, a businessman said to be residing in Agege, and Micheal Adenuga, 24, a furniture maker who lives on Atere Street in Lekki, were charged with defilement. Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecuting counsel, Adegoke Ademigbuji, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told the court that the alleged offences were committed at different times between December 2024 and September 2025.

According to the prosecution, the incidents occurred in the Langbasa area of Ajah and in Igbara Lekki, both within Lagos State.

Ademigbuji informed the court that the case came to light after the victim’s father took his daughter for medical examination, during which it was discovered that the minor had been defiled.

He added that the girl subsequently narrated her ordeal to her father, identifying Tomnyie, described as a friend of the family, as one of the alleged perpetrators.

The prosecutor further alleged that the minor also mentioned the name of the second defendant, Adenuga, who was said to be living within their neighbourhood, as being involved in the offence.

According to the prosecution, the alleged acts contravene Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes stiff penalties for sexual offences involving minors.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate L. A. Owolabi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N600,000 each, with two sureties in like sum. The court adjourned the case until March 5 for mention.
