A new phase in Nigeria’s revenue administration unraveled on Wednesday as the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) unveiled its institutional brand identity, marking its full operational transition from the defunct Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The NRS was established following the signing of its enabling legislation, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025, by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025. The law dissolved the FIRS and created a unified national revenue authority with an expanded mandate aimed at strengthening tax administration and improving revenue mobilisation.

Speaking at the logo unveiling ceremony in Abuja, the Executive Chairman of the NRS, Zacch Adedeji, described the new brand identity as a defining milestone in the evolution of Nigeria’s fiscal governance framework.

Adedeji said the logo and associated brand elements were deliberately crafted to reflect the Service’s renewed vision and strategic direction. According to him, the unveiling underscores a commitment to a more unified, efficient, and service-oriented revenue system that aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic transformation agenda and internationally accepted best practices.

“The unveiling of the NRS identity reflects a renewed commitment to a more unified, efficient, and service-oriented revenue system, one that is aligned with Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda and global best practices,” he said.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi, the NRS chairman further noted that the new identity represents both continuity and reform – retaining the core mandate of revenue generation while strengthening institutional capacity and adopting a forward-looking approach to taxpayer engagement.

He added that the rebranding signals the beginning of a new relationship between the revenue authority and the public, anchored on transparency, partnership and service excellence.

“The Nigeria Revenue Service remains committed to transparency, partnership, and service excellence. The unveiling of this new identity represents not an end, but the beginning of a strengthened relationship between the revenue authority and the Nigerian public – built on trust, clarity, and shared prosperity,” the statement read.

The transition from FIRS to NRS is widely seen by policy analysts as part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to modernise public institutions, widen the tax net, and improve voluntary compliance through efficiency, professionalism, and improved service delivery.
