At least six real estate marketers from Lagos have been abducted in Ogun State during an inspection visit to a landed property in Oyebola village, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area, according to a report by Premium Times.

The victims were part of a team deployed to assess their company’s land as part of preparations for a new marketing campaign when they were seized by unknown assailants on Friday. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Sunday night, assuring that an intensive rescue operation was underway.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, said the abductors struck while the team was carrying out routine checks on the site. He noted that security operatives were promptly alerted and had since commenced coordinated search efforts.

“They brought some marketers from Lagos to come and see the land so that they can have the requisite information to market the land for members of the public who are interested,” Ogunlowo explained.

“It was during their visit to this land that the six people were abducted. The command has been on it since, and we shall definitely ensure that these people regain their freedom.”

The abduction adds to the rising wave of insecurity across the country, particularly kidnappings targeting civilians, schools and worship centres. The situation has amplified calls for a decentralised policing structure, with renewed demands for the creation of state police.

Last week, Southern governors once again pressed for state-controlled policing during a meeting in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State. Led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, the governors stressed that state police is “non-negotiable,” arguing that the current centralised security architecture is overstretched and unable to contain localised threats effectively.

Their demand comes amid a string of high-profile abductions. On 21 November, over 300 students were seized from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State, while 25 girls were kidnapped from a school in Kebbi State. In Kwara State, 38 worshippers were taken during an attack on a church.

The latest incident in Ogun has intensified pressure on both state and federal authorities to act decisively as communities across the country grapple with worsening security challenges.
