The Osun State Government on Monday announced an immediate 24-hour curfew on Igbajo town in Boluwaduro Local Government Area following violent disturbances that erupted overnight and continued into the early hours of the day.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government said the decision became necessary after security reports confirmed a breakdown of law and order involving sections of the community. The unrest was reportedly linked to tensions that followed the death of Prince Adegboyega Famodun, an eminent indigene who passed away last Saturday after a brief illness.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, acting on intelligence from the office of his Special Adviser on Security, Samuel Ojo, directed an immediate lockdown of the town, stressing that the curfew would remain in force until full peace is restored.

Describing the situation as “deeply shocking and dismaying,” the governor condemned the disturbances and warned that his administration would not tolerate any conduct capable of undermining public peace across the state. He maintained that Osun would not allow civic unrest to fester in any community, including Igbajo.

“As a government that believes in strict adherence to the rule of engagement in ensuring peace and order at all times, my administration will not fold its arms to allow the breach of law and order anywhere in the state,” the governor said.

Adeleke also issued a strong warning to both natives and residents of the community to desist from actions that could escalate the conflict, declaring that anyone found culpable—openly or otherwise—would face the full weight of the law.

The governor further ordered a joint deployment of security personnel, including the Army, Police, DSS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to enforce round-the-clock surveillance in Igbajo throughout the period of the lockdown.

While reiterating his commitment to safeguarding peace across Osun State, Adeleke extended his condolences to the family of Prince Famodun and the people of Igbajo over the loss of their “illustrious son,” praying for the repose of his soul.

The state government urged residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies as efforts continue to restore normalcy.
