A middle-aged man identified simply as Kehinde has been killed and several others injured following a violent clash involving youths in Asalu community, Lalupon, located in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred in the community on the outskirts of Ibadan when a confrontation among a group of youths escalated into violence, resulting in the fatal attack on the victim.

According to reports, Kehinde was assaulted with dangerous weapons during the clash and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to the injuries.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that a suspect identified as Giwa Sodiq has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder.

Ayanlade explained that the incident was reported to the Iyana-Offa Divisional Police Headquarters by community leaders after local security guards alerted them to a violent confrontation involving youths while most residents were asleep.

He said those injured during the clash were immediately taken to OjoOluwa Hospital in Iyana-Offa for medical treatment. However, one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, also known as “OgoOjigbo,” later died from injuries sustained during the attack.

The police spokesperson added that upon receiving the report, operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Iyana-Offa Division swiftly mobilised to the scene of the incident and the hospital to commence investigation.

Photographs were taken for documentation purposes, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in connection with the incident,” Ayanlade stated.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue of Adeoyo State Hospital, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, the police said efforts were ongoing to track down other suspects who reportedly fled the scene following the clash.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Femi Haruna, commended the swift response of police operatives and urged residents to remain vigilant.

He also appealed to members of the public with credible information that could assist in the arrest of the fleeing suspects to come forward and cooperate with the police.

Haruna further encouraged residents to continue supporting security agencies in maintaining peace and ensuring safety across communities in the state.
