The Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) will next week graduate 8,654 students across its various academic programmes, with 291 of them finishing with distinction. The Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, announced this during a press briefing to unveil activities for the institution’s 37th convocation ceremony.
He said the college will also confer its prestigious Fellowship award on three eminent Nigerians: Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, Majority Leader of the 10th National Assembly; Senator Solomon Olamilekan Yayi; and Abdul-Samad Isyaku Rabiu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BUA Group.
According to Abdul, Senator Bamidele will deliver the convocation lecture titled “Entrepreneurship Development in the Digital Age: Leveraging Technology for Job Creation and Economic Growth.”
He disclosed that the overall best graduating student is Ani Faith Ada of the Department of Office Technology Management, who earned a CGPA of 3.90 out of 4.0.
Providing a breakdown of the graduating class, Abdul said 2,434 students will receive Upper Credit, 4,403 earned Lower Credit, while 1,526 will graduate with Pass grades.
“These milestones underscore our dedication to delivering top-tier education, fostering innovation, and engaging effectively with our community,” the Rector said.
He added that the fellowship awardees have demonstrated exceptional leadership and contributed significantly to national development, particularly in the areas of digital advancement, governance, and economic growth. Their achievements, he said, are aligned with the college’s values of integrity, innovation, and excellence.
Abdul also highlighted key achievements under his administration, including the introduction of new academic programmes, strengthened partnerships with industry, improved welfare for staff and students, and expanded scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
He assured that the forthcoming convocation would reflect YABATECH’s tradition of academic excellence. “We have put in place robust security, logistics, and health safety measures to ensure a seamless and memorable experience for all participants,” he added.
