Nigeria’s telecommunications sector is witnessing a potential shift as Vitel Wireless, a newly licensed operator, introduces a non-expiring data model designed to address premature data depletion, one of the most persistent concerns among mobile users.

The company, which operates under a licence from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), unveiled the initiative at a launch event in Lagos, positioning it as a customer-centric innovation tailored to the needs of Nigerians, particularly young people and small business owners.

Chairman of Vitel Wireless, Kenneth Neabueze, explained that the model allows subscribers to retain purchased data indefinitely until it is fully utilised, eliminating the conventional expiry timelines that often frustrate users.

“Our message to Nigerians is straightforward: once you buy data, it remains yours until you exhaust it. There is no pressure of losing unused data within a fixed period,” he said.

Neabueze noted that the offering is designed to enhance transparency, reduce costs, and give users greater control over their spending, especially amid prevailing economic pressures.

According to findings from the company’s internal research, a significant number of Nigerians lose unused data due to expiry policies, often at critical moments such as during academic activities or business operations.

Vitel Wireless enters the market as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), a model that allows telecom companies to provide services without owning physical network infrastructure. Instead, MVNOs lease network capacity from established operators, enabling them to prioritise innovation, competitive pricing, and improved customer experience.

Globally, the MVNO model has gained momentum as it lowers barriers to entry and encourages competition by allowing new players to introduce flexible, consumer-oriented services.

In addition to its flagship non-expiring data plans, the company introduced a suite of digital products, including the Vitel Xphone, which integrates voice, video, and messaging services using both GSM and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technologies.

The operator stated that its services will be accessible via both traditional SIM cards and eSIM technology, allowing users to either retain their existing numbers or migrate seamlessly to its network.

Vitel Wireless also assured customers of nationwide coverage across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with access to core telecom services such as voice calls, SMS, USSD, and mobile data.

Chief Operating Officer, Chudi Nwabueze, described the company as a technology-driven telecom provider committed to delivering solutions that extend beyond conventional connectivity.

“We are introducing innovations that support everyday living—from business operations to home management,” he said, noting that eSIM capability enables users to operate multiple lines on compatible devices.

As part of its broader ecosystem, the company also rolled out several digital tools, including the Oga App for workforce management, as well as SecureMe and Asset Tracker solutions aimed at enhancing personal safety and business asset monitoring.

Vitel Wireless further encouraged consumers to benchmark its pricing against existing operators, emphasising cost advantages on larger data bundles without expiry restrictions.

To deepen market penetration, the firm is expanding its distribution network through partnerships that enable Nigerians to register as mobile agents nationwide.

With its entry into the telecoms market and a bold focus on non-expiring data, Vitel Wireless is positioning itself as a disruptive force, offering a more flexible and consumer-friendly alternative in Nigeria’s competitive connectivity landscape.
