The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has intensified political mobilisation efforts in Ondo State, rallying women across the state’s 18 local government areas in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was disclosed in Akure on Friday by a former Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperative Services, Yetunde Adeyanju, during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Asiwaju Mandate Group, a political organisation aligned with the minister.

Adeyanju revealed that the women’s wing of the group has been assigned an ambitious target of securing at least 95 per cent support from women in the state for the president’s second-term ambition.

She noted that with the internal party congresses concluded, the focus has shifted fully to grassroots mobilisation.

According to her, the directive underscores a broader strategy to ensure inclusive political participation, particularly among women, who she said have continued to gain increased representation at the national level under the current administration.

“The congresses are behind us, and we are now focused on mobilising women across the state for Asiwaju’s re-election in 2027,” Adeyanju said. “The Minister of Interior has given the women’s wing a clear mandate to ensure that no woman is left out in this mobilisation drive.”

Also speaking at the meeting, the Director-General of the group, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, said the organisation had regained stability following recent political challenges and was repositioning for aggressive grassroots engagement.

He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting brought together members of the leaders’ council, state executives, women’s wing, and coordinators from local government and ward levels to reinforce unity and fine-tune mobilisation strategies.

Asagunla added that the group has established functional structures across all 203 wards in Ondo State and is extending its reach to polling units to consolidate support for Tinubu.

Reaffirming confidence in the President’s leadership, he said the group is aiming to significantly improve on its previous electoral performance in the state.

“In the last election, we secured about 68.9 per cent of the vote in Ondo State. This time, we are targeting 95 per cent,” he said, expressing optimism about achieving the new benchmark.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the group’s Leaders Council and former senator representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Yele Omogunwa, said the meeting was convened to review strategies and rebuild cohesion within the organisation following the party congresses.

While acknowledging that issues arising from the state congress had been largely resolved, Omogunwa criticised the conduct of the exercise at the local government level, describing it as poorly managed.

He, however, urged members to remain committed and avoid divided loyalties, stressing the need for transparency, unity, and discipline as the group intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
