A mini truck conveying tomatoes on Friday lost control and rammed into several vehicles on the Otedola Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, once again drawing attention to the persistent safety challenges associated with the corridor.
The accident, which occurred around noon, was attributed to brake failure, according to eyewitness accounts.
The truck reportedly veered off its lane on the bridge and crashed into other vehicles, triggering panic among motorists navigating the busy expressway.
The force of the impact caused a black sport utility vehicle to climb onto another car, leaving both vehicles visibly damaged.
Despite the severity of the collision, no fatalities were recorded. Occupants of one of the affected vehicles, said to be a family, reportedly escaped unhurt.
Vehicular movement on the bridge was severely disrupted for several hours as emergency responders, traffic officials, and road users worked to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow.
Friday’s crash is the latest in a long line of accidents on Otedola Bridge, widely regarded as one of Lagos’ most dangerous traffic blackspots, particularly for incidents involving heavy-duty vehicles.
