President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his government’s determination to eradicate terrorism and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with the global community, declaring that the country will not be deterred by recent external criticisms.
Speaking before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, the first since July, the president urged his cabinet to maintain focus and unity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism. The task ahead is to move forward with clarity of purpose guided by the Renewed Hope Agenda to build a prosperous Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
His comments followed the recent decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern”, a move the Federal Government has strongly rejected as an inaccurate portrayal of the nation’s security landscape.
Addressing the issue for the first time, President Tinubu said his administration remains in active dialogue with international partners to advance Nigeria’s interests in security, stability, and economic development.
“Despite political headwinds and fears, we will continue to engage with our partners. The success of the $2.3bn Eurobond, which was oversubscribed, is a sign of confidence in our economy. The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose,” he stated.
Tinubu also commended his ministers for their dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda and urged them to remain steadfast in driving reforms aimed at rebuilding the economy and restoring public trust.
“Our unity is our strength,” he added. “Nigeria will remain one nation, committed to peace and prosperity.”
The FEC meeting later went into a closed-door session, where key national and economic issues were discussed.
