President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, in a diplomatic engagement aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation across critical sectors.
The visit was confirmed on Sunday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled “President Tinubu to undertake state visit to Türkiye.”
According to the statement, the trip is designed to consolidate the long-standing cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye while opening new avenues for collaboration in security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.
The presidential visit also serves as a reciprocal gesture following the state visit to Nigeria by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from October 19 to 20, 2021 – an engagement that laid the groundwork for deeper political and economic ties between both countries.
During the visit, President Tinubu and Turkish authorities are expected to hold high-level political and diplomatic consultations, focusing on shared priorities in finance, communications, trade and investment.
The agenda includes meetings between senior government officials from both sides and the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding.
“These agreements will span areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration and diplomatic protocol,” the statement said.
A Nigeria-Türkiye business forum will also be convened as part of the visit, bringing together investors and private-sector leaders from both countries to identify concrete investment opportunities and strengthen commercial partnerships.
Members of President Tinubu’s delegation participating in the bilateral engagements include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd); and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Other officials on the entourage are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the state visit.
