The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed that the former governor of the state and senator representing the Ogun East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is no longer recognized as a member of the party, insisting that his suspension remains valid and binding.

In a letter addressed to the APC National Chairman, the state leadership emphasized that any political or official dealings with the lawmaker “are invalid.”

According to a statement issued in Abeokuta by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lekan Adeniran, the letter was dated October 3, 2025, and jointly signed by the APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and the State Secretary, Hon. Tella Aderibigbe.

The party stated that Senator Daniel was suspended on August 19, 2025, for acts contrary to party discipline and that the decision was duly communicated to him.

Citing Article 21 (vii) of the APC constitution, the statement explained that a suspended member automatically forfeits all party privileges, including the right to vote, attend meetings, or participate in party activities.

“As part of the disciplinary process outlined in our constitution, any member suspended pending investigation is expressly barred from participating in the proceedings of any party organ,” the statement read.

The party further cautioned public officials, political associates, and the general public to desist from recognising the former governor as a member of the APC until his suspension is formally lifted.

“Any and all dealings with Otunba Olugbenga Daniel in the capacity of a bona fide member of the APC are invalid, unrecognised, and of no effect to the party,” the statement added.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal discipline, the Ogun APC stressed that it would continue to uphold the rule of law and respect for its constitution.

However, Senator Daniel’s camp has dismissed the development as politically motivated. His media aide, Steve Oliyide, described the purported suspension as “the handiwork of individuals threatened by the senator’s rising political influence and close relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Oliyide said the suspension did not emanate from Daniel’s ward, insisting that it was engineered by “unknown Ward 4 executives” in Sagamu Local Government, while the senator belongs to Ward 12 (Isote) in the same council area.

He revealed that leaders and members of Ward 12 had already petitioned the state and national executives, urging them to disregard what he called an “illegal and politically motivated” act.

“The statement being circulated was not signed by anyone. Our investigation shows it is being pushed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor using government platforms to spread falsehood. Since when did the CPS become the spokesperson for the party?” Oliyide queried.

He challenged those behind the claims to produce evidence of the alleged suspension letter or correspondence to the national leadership, insisting that “no such document exists.”

Oliyide alleged that the move was part of a broader plot to force Daniel out of the APC and pave the way for other aspirants targeting his Senate seat.
