Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, declaring that the president’s administration has laid the foundation for a “new Nigeria” marked by notable achievements in less than three years in office.
Sanwo-Olu made the remarks on Wednesday in Oregun, Ikeja, during the inauguration of 20 local government coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) in Lagos State.
The initiative, according to him, is aimed at deepening public awareness of the president’s policies and accomplishments at the grassroots.
The development comes amid heightened political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections. While the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is positioning for re-election, opposition platforms, including the emerging African Democratic Congress coalition (ADC), are strategising to challenge the APC’s dominance.
Grassroots Mobilisation Strategy
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors programme is expected to be extended to the remaining 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos.
At the event, about 20 branded buses bearing the Renewed Hope Agenda insignia and President Tinubu’s image were distributed to enhance mobilisation and logistics.
Top government officials and party leaders attended the inauguration, including Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde, and Senator Dayo Adeyeye, alongside traditional rulers, community leaders and party stakeholders.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the initiative does not constitute the commencement of formal political campaigns but represents a structured engagement to promote the administration’s record.
“What we have witnessed is the swearing-in and administration of oath to the 20 local government coordinators. We have not commenced any form of campaign,” the governor said. “This is an activation of commitment; a coming together of like minds to propagate the achievements of the president.”
He urged the coordinators to take the message of the Renewed Hope Agenda to every ward in the state, emphasising that the movement was voluntary and grassroots-driven.
Claims of Economic and Structural Reforms
In a robust endorsement of the president, Sanwo-Olu listed what he described as key milestones of the Tinubu administration, including debt reduction, economic stabilisation, a new national minimum wage, infrastructure expansion, declining inflation and reduced food prices.
“He has engaged in extensive international diplomacy to attract investment. I know what investors have brought into Lagos. Development is being felt in every part of the country,” he stated.
Declaring his readiness to support Tinubu’s second-term ambition, the governor maintained that Lagos would demonstrate strong backing for the president at the grassroots, particularly through the APC’s ongoing e-registration drive, in which the state currently leads nationwide.
He also directed coordinators to effectively utilise the branded vehicles to strengthen outreach efforts.
National Movement, Not Campaign – Organisers
South-West Renewed Hope Coordinator, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, congratulated the newly inaugurated officials, expressing confidence in the APC’s prospects in 2027.
“This is the best president Nigeria has ever had. We are confident of victory,” he said, dismissing opposition criticism as driven by envy of the administration’s achievements.
Similarly, Sunday Akere, a coordinator from Osun State, noted that while the 2027 campaign had not officially commenced, preparation remained critical to electoral success.
Earlier, Lagos RHA Coordinator and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde, described the project as a national engagement platform rather than a campaign structure.
According to him, the objective is to strengthen public confidence by communicating the president’s achievements directly to communities, markets and schools.
Representing Ikorodu Local Government Area, Japhet Odesanya pledged that coordinators would ensure the message reaches all parts of the state.
Political analysts observe that while framed as civic engagement, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors initiative signals early grassroots consolidation by the APC in Lagos, a strategic stronghold, as the 2027 electoral cycle gradually approaches.
