A young woman, Oluwaseun Adebayo, has been rescued by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command after she was kidnapped by four men who forced her into an unregistered Toyota Camry (Muscle) and sped off towards an unknown destination.

Police spokesperson, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, saying the victim was abducted around Welluwelu 2, along Oda Road, Akure, at about 6:30 p.m.

According to him, the rescue was made possible following a swift police response to an alert from a Good Samaritan who reported the abduction to the authorities.

“The informant reported that four young men driving an unregistered Toyota car had forcefully taken a lady and were heading towards the Shoprite Roundabout in Akure,” Ayanlade said.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police personnel from the Command immediately mobilised, strategically blocked the suspects’ route, and successfully intercepted the vehicle, leading to the arrest of all four assailants and the immediate rescue of the victim.”

Further investigation revealed that Adebayo was kidnapped along Weluwelu Street, Ilekun, Oda, and was being transported out of the area before the police intervention.

Ayanlade noted that the unregistered Toyota Camry used by the suspects had been recovered as an exhibit, while all four suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their swift and coordinated action and praised the vigilance of the citizen whose prompt report made the rescue possible.

“This successful operation demonstrates the importance of public cooperation in policing. The growing trust between citizens and the police remains a key pillar in our efforts to combat crime,” Lawal stated.

The rescue comes amid intensified security operations in Ondo State, where both the police and Amotekun Corps have recently recorded multiple breakthroughs against criminal networks.

Just on Wednesday, the Ondo State Security Network (Amotekun Corps) announced the arrest of a man allegedly acting as a spy for kidnappers, alerting them whenever Amotekun operatives were nearby.

Similarly, the police last week apprehended five suspected kidnappers, identified as Friday Monday, Ashimi Wahab, James Odina, Ibrahim Idris, and Prince Areeh, in Amurin, within the Owo–Ifon axis, following reports of recurring abductions in the area.
