Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol operating along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State have recovered a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be parts of a human corpse, concealed among passengers’ luggage in a commercial vehicle.
The discovery was made during a routine stop-and-search operation near the Guru Maharaji Village axis of the busy expressway, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said the vehicle’s driver, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was travelling from Lagos to Osogbo when operatives intercepted the bus for inspection. During the search, officers discovered the suspicious items carefully concealed inside a red cloth among travellers’ bags.
“The driver was immediately apprehended, and investigation has commenced to determine the origin and intended purpose of the recovered items,” the statement said, adding that investigative efforts have been extended beyond Oyo State to identify and apprehend all individuals connected to the incident.
The police spokesperson assured residents that the case was being handled with the utmost professionalism and diligence.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that all offenders are brought to justice and urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention across the state.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed a separate suspected murder incident at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan, which was reported at the Akanran Police Division.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a disagreement between two casual workers escalated into a violent confrontation. During the altercation, a 22-year-old suspect, Lawal Ibrahim, allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old colleague, Raimi Ige, with a broken bottle. The victim later died while being rushed to the hospital.
Police said the suspect was arrested, while the deceased’s body was deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
Given the seriousness of the offence, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for discreet investigation. The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
