The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its national convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan will proceed as planned, despite a recent Abuja High Court ruling halting the event.
Chairman of the 2025 National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, Umar Fintiri, made the clarification after a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja. He stressed that the gathering remained essential to the party’s roadmap.
“We’ve just come out of our critical stakeholders meeting, where a lot of elaborate decisions were taken. I want to tell you here that we are going to Ibadan for our convention, and the convention is sacrosanct,” Fintiri said.
Present at the meeting were members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BoT), and other key party stakeholders.
The build-up to the 2025 Elective National Convention has been marked by conflicting court decisions. Last week, an Oyo High Court ruled that the PDP and its National Chairman could proceed with the convention. However, a High Court in Abuja subsequently issued an order restraining the party from holding the event and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to supervise or recognise it.
Despite the legal uncertainty, party leaders maintain that preparations for the Ibadan convention remain on course.
