The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of popular broadcaster Kola Oladapo, fondly known as Mr. Nice Guy, describing his passing as a painful loss to the media industry in the state.
In a condolence statement jointly signed by the NUJ Chairman, Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the union said it received news of Oladapo’s death with “deep shock and profound sadness.”
The statement conveyed the union’s condolences to the management and staff of Lagelu 96.7FM, where the deceased worked, as well as to his family, noting that his demise has created a significant vacuum within the station and the wider media community in Oyo State.
Oladapo was described as a passionate broadcaster, committed media professional, and vibrant on-air personality whose voice, creativity, and warmth endeared him to listeners and colleagues alike.
According to the NUJ, his contributions to Lagelu FM and to the broadcasting profession will remain indelible.
“His professionalism, humility and dedication to duty stood him out as a worthy ambassador of the journalism and broadcasting profession,” the union said, stressing that his legacy would continue to resonate within the industry.
On behalf of journalists in the state, the NUJ prayed for strength and fortitude for the management and staff of Lagelu 96.7FM and the Oladapo family to bear what it described as an irreparable loss.
The union also prayed that God grants the departed eternal rest and comforts all those mourning him.
