The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has outlined the reasons behind the party’s decision to endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
Oyetola led the Osun APC on February 14 to formally back the president’s re-election bid at a grand reception held at Freedom Park. The event attracted a large gathering of party leaders, supporters, and stakeholders across the state.
The ceremony also doubled as a welcome reception for five federal lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, alongside their supporters, a development party officials described as a boost to the APC’s political strength in Osun.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola said the endorsement was anchored on “performance, courage, and a clear vision for Nigeria’s future.”
He argued that President Tinubu took difficult but necessary decisions at the outset of his administration to prevent economic collapse. According to him, the administration’s fiscal and monetary reforms were designed to stabilise the economy, rebuild investor confidence, and restore credibility to Nigeria’s financial system.
Oyetola cited improved revenue generation and enhanced transparency in public finance as early indicators that the policies are yielding results.
He maintained that the reforms, though initially challenging, were essential to reposition the country on a path of sustainable growth.
The former Osun State governor also pointed to infrastructure development as a cornerstone of the administration’s agenda.
He referenced ongoing investments in roads, rail networks, ports, and the energy sector, stressing that such projects are critical to long-term economic expansion and job creation.
On social welfare, the minister commended the federal government’s intervention programmes aimed at cushioning the impact of economic reforms.
Oyetola highlighted student loan initiatives and targeted support for small and medium-sized enterprises as evidence that the administration is balancing reform with social responsibility.
Security, he added, remains a top priority under Tinubu’s leadership. He noted renewed coordination among security agencies and increased support for law enforcement institutions as part of efforts to enhance national stability.
Describing the President as a seasoned administrator, Oyetola recalled his record in Lagos State and his longstanding commitment to progressive politics. He said Tinubu possesses the experience and political will required to govern a complex and diverse nation.
According to him, continuity at the federal level is crucial at this stage of Nigeria’s development. A second term, he argued, would enable the President to consolidate ongoing reforms, complete major infrastructure projects, and fully stabilise the economy.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated courage, capacity, and commitment to reposition Nigeria. What he needs now is time to complete the good job he has started,” Oyetola stated, assuring that APC members in Osun are united behind the President’s re-election bid.
He also expressed confidence that the APC’s gubernatorial candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, would secure victory in the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
