The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned that the internal wrangling currently tearing apart the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may soon lead to the collapse of the state ruling party both at the national and state levels.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, and made available in Osogbo on Sunday, the APC urged residents of the state to “keep the PDP at arm’s length,” describing the party’s ongoing national crisis as proof of its lack of vision and capacity to lead.
Olabisi said the series of suspensions and counter-suspensions among principal officers of the PDP’s National Working Committee was evidence that “things have fallen apart” in their fold.
He added, “It was either because Governor Ademola Adeleke had a premonition or an advanced knowledge of what would befall the party that made him rush his filing of the questionable governorship screening form for his re-election at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja last Wednesday.”
The statement also referenced a similar development in Ekiti State, where one of the PDP governorship aspirants reportedly stepped down for another candidate, describing it as further proof of disarray within the party.
The APC claimed it had been “vindicated” by what it called the PDP’s “unsavoury plight” from the national level down to the ward structures, adding that the party’s dysfunction showed it was unfit to govern Osun.
“With the turn of events at the PDP’s national headquarters, it is fair to conclude that Governor Adeleke’s screening document, presented with fanfare in Abuja, is no better than a waste paper. The PDP has left the Intensive Care Unit and is now slated for its final burial soon,” the APC said.
However, in a swift reaction, the Osun PDP described the APC’s comments as “a desperate effort to stay politically relevant,” insisting that the party remained united, focused, and strong under Governor Adeleke’s leadership.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media, Oladele Bamiji, the PDP said, “No amount of falsehood or mischievous propaganda from a frustrated opposition can shake our foundation. We understand the APC’s dilemma – their only 2026 strategy is to pray that Governor Adeleke is disqualified. Such barren prayers have long been rejected by both God and the good people of Osun State.”
The party further accused the APC of hypocrisy and internal disarray, urging it to “put its house in order before pontificating on the affairs of others.”
“The lazy gangsters parading themselves as APC leaders in Osun are only trying to polish their inevitable downfall. Osun people have moved on from the era of deceit and political pickpocketing that defined the APC’s reign,” the PDP added.
Reaffirming the legitimacy of Adeleke’s nomination process, Bamiji said it was “lawful, transparent, and backed by overwhelming popular support,” stressing that “no amount of wishful thinking or social media restlessness can change that fact.”
