The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, over an alleged case of incest and sexual abuse involving a 15-year-old minor.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed on Monday that the suspect allegedly impregnated the underage victim, identified as his niece.
According to Jimoh, the case was reported to the police on January 4 by one Adewale, a resident of Ilara-Mokin, who raised concerns that the suspect had been engaging in unlawful sexual activities with his sister’s daughter. The matter reportedly came to light after inquiries were made into the cause of the teenager’s pregnancy.
“Upon receipt of this disturbing report, the case was immediately referred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit of the command for discreet and thorough investigation,” Jimoh said.
He confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reiterating the stance of the command, Jimoh said the Ondo State Police remained firmly committed to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children, stressing that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence would be made to face the full weight of the law without compromise.
The spokesperson added that the arrest was in line with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, whose reform-driven leadership, he noted, continues to strengthen gender-sensitive policing across the country.
According to him, the IGP’s vision prioritises accountability and more strategic responses to sexual and gender-based violence nationwide, with state commands expected to translate policy into concrete action at the grassroots.
Jimoh also commended members of the public for their timely and courageous reporting, urging residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and actionable information to security agencies.
“Together, we can build a safer society for our children and generations unborn,” he said.
