Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested 13 suspects in connection with the violent attack that disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre town, leaving two persons dead and three others injured.
The attack, which occurred on February 18, also resulted in the destruction of several properties, heightening political tensions in the community.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following a coordinated intelligence-driven operation by officers of the Idanre Division.
According to him, the operation was carried out on the directive of the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, after credible intelligence and sustained surveillance.
“Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, operatives of the Idanre Division executed coordinated operations at strategic locations, culminating in the arrest of the following suspects: Adewusi, Dele, Akinkurole, Victor, Abbas, Michael, Jolojolo, Ifedayo, Olamilekan, Emmanuel, Sunday, Michael, and Monday,” Jimoh said.
He added that the suspects had made useful statements that were assisting ongoing investigations, while efforts were underway to apprehend other individuals linked to the attack.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to justice, Lawal assured residents that all those involved in the heinous act would be brought to book.
He urged residents of Idanre and the broader Ondo State community to remain calm and law-abiding, while cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to support security operations.
