Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday foiled a robbery attempt in Sagamu and recovered a black Lexus GS 350 believed to have been used by the fleeing suspects.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Abeokuta, noting that the intervention followed a timely distress call.

According to her, the police at Sakura Division received an alert around 1:45 a.m. from the Community Development Committee Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, off the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway. The caller reported that about five hoodlums were attempting to forcefully gain entry into a residence in the area.

Odutola explained that officers immediately mobilized to the scene. However, on sighting the patrol team, the suspects abandoned their mission and fled in different directions, prompting a pursuit by the operatives.

She said the suspects’ operational car, a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT, was recovered at the community entrance. A search of the vehicle yielded several fireworks (knockouts) suspected to have been intended for diversionary use during the robbery attempt.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the Sakura Division operatives for their swift and professional handling of the situation.

He further revealed that the command had strengthened its operational strategies by deploying personnel to identified flashpoints across Ogun State as part of its end-of-year security measures.

Ogunlowo assured residents of continued police visibility and rapid response to emergencies while urging members of the public to remain vigilant, particularly when returning home at night.

He also advised residents to illuminate dark or isolated areas to deter criminal elements who exploit such conditions for illicit activities.

The command encouraged the public to follow its verified social media handles for authentic updates and real-time security information.
