Governor Dapo Abiodun has described Ambassador Dr. Olatokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu as a living testament to divine grace, excellence, and enduring national service as she marked her 78th birthday.

Dr. Awolowo-Dosumu, the only surviving child of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, commemorated the milestone with a thanksgiving service held at the family chapel in Awolowo’s residence in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State. The event, themed “Celebrating 78 Years of the Awesome Power of God,” drew family members, close associates, and well-wishers.

Currently the Chairman of African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, publishers of the Nigerian Tribune, and Executive Director of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, the celebrant expressed gratitude to God for sustained protection and guidance throughout her life.

In a congratulatory message, Governor Abiodun described the occasion as a significant milestone not only for the Awolowo family but also for the people of Ogun State, who regard her as a priceless heritage figure.

“At 78, she is our great treasure in Ogun State, being the only surviving direct link to our Papa, Chief Obafemi Awolowo of blessed memory,” the governor said, noting that her presence continues to inspire generations.

He commended her distinguished career, which spans medicine, diplomacy, and public administration. Dr. Awolowo-Dosumu trained and practiced as an occupational health physician before assuming key leadership roles nationally and internationally.

Abiodun highlighted her tenure as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Netherlands from 2000 to 2003, her service as Chair of the Board of Management of Lagos University Teaching Hospital between 2013 and 2015, and her role as a delegate to the 2014 National Constitutional Conference.

He further referenced her participation in the 1988–89 Constituent Assembly as Vice-Chairman of Committee 4, her membership of the International Committee of the Council on Foundations, and her leadership roles within the Conference of States Parties and the African Group of States Parties.

According to the governor, Dr. Awolowo-Dosumu has consistently demonstrated administrative competence and intellectual depth, rallying global thought leaders to address issues such as sustainable development, gender equity, and Africa’s socio-economic transformation.

He particularly praised her leadership of the Nigerian Tribune, describing the newspaper as a publication of record that continues to thrive under her chairmanship.

Governor Abiodun prayed for her continued good health and longevity, affirming that Ogun State remains proud of her enduring contributions to public life.

Delivering the sermon at the thanksgiving service, the Vicar of Our Saviour’s Church, Venerable Oluranti Oladejo, described the celebration as a moment of reflection on God’s benevolence from childhood to adulthood, urging the celebrant to remain steadfast in her service to God and humanity.

“We are gathered here to rejoice and appreciate God for His loving kindness over her life,” the cleric said, noting that longevity is a privilege that should inspire gratitude and deeper commitment to service.

The only lesson at the service was read by her grandchild, Master Iyanuoluwa Anifowose, while a chant was rendered by Mrs. Oluwemimo Anifowose.

The event was attended by many dignitaries across different fields of endeavour
