The Nigerian Army Finance Corps on Friday held a colourful valedictory parade in Lagos to honour 10 senior officers who recently retired after decades of distinguished military service.

The ceremony, which took place at the Nigerian Army School of Signals Parade Ground in Apapa, was organised to celebrate the retirees’ contributions to the growth, professionalism, and institutional stability of the Corps.

Those honoured include Major Generals KI Yusuf, AA Fayemiwo, J Mohammed, RN Ochei, MO Ihanuwaze, M Galadima, SA Gumel, as well as Brigadier Generals EA Obona, AS Maikano, and MK Baba-Mallam.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, the Special Guest of Honour, Kamal Ishola Yusuf, described the event as one of the most dignified and visually impressive military parades he had witnessed.

Speaking during his valedictory address, Major General Yusuf emphasised that the military remains one of the few institutions that consistently preserve time-honoured traditions, noting that such customs are central to the Army’s discipline, ethos, and shared sense of purpose.

He said the pulling-out parade was a powerful reminder that the Nigerian Army and its Finance Corps continue to thrive by consciously preserving and honouring their noble heritage, even as they adapt to contemporary challenges.

Major General Yusuf expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of the retirees throughout their years of active service and appreciated the support of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, whom he credited with providing unwavering backing to the Finance Corps.

He also commended the Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), Major General TT Sidick, for his dedication and leadership, noting that his efforts were instrumental to the success of the ceremony.

According to the statement, the parade attracted a wide array of dignitaries, including serving and retired senior officers, former Chiefs of Army Staff, Corps Commanders, commandants of defence institutions, formation commanders, captains of industry, heads of financial institutions, and family members of the honourees.

Highlights of the event included the traditional pulling-out parade, a ceremonial march-past, and group photographs.

Guests were later hosted to a reception at the Command Finance Office, featuring musical performances, comedy acts, a live band, cultural displays, and a reception with assorted refreshments.
