The Lagos State Police Command on Saturday said it has arrested five suspects in connection with the killing of a yet-to-be-identified Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Agege Division.

According to the Commandโ€™s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundevin, the suspects were believed to be among those who resisted evacuation efforts after an accident involving a truck and an Okada rider at WEMCO junction in Agege. The incident led to the death of the senior police officer.

Hundevin confirmed that the police team had responded to a distress call about the accident at around 1:40 am on Saturday, where a motorcycle rider was said to have run into a trailer, leading to his death.

However, some of the deceasedโ€™s colleagues who gathered at the scene resisted the attempt by the police team to prevent them from setting the trailer ablaze.

Describing the killing of the police officer as โ€˜needless and uncalled forโ€™, the police spokesman said five suspects have been taken to custody for their alleged involvement in the crime, while a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of others.

He said the police are determined to bring all those involved in the act to justice.
