The Lagos State Police Command on Saturday said it has arrested five suspects in connection with the killing of a yet-to-be-identified Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Agege Division.
According to the Commandโs spokesperson, Benjamin Hundevin, the suspects were believed to be among those who resisted evacuation efforts after an accident involving a truck and an Okada rider at WEMCO junction in Agege. The incident led to the death of the senior police officer.
Hundevin confirmed that the police team had responded to a distress call about the accident at around 1:40 am on Saturday, where a motorcycle rider was said to have run into a trailer, leading to his death.
However, some of the deceasedโs colleagues who gathered at the scene resisted the attempt by the police team to prevent them from setting the trailer ablaze.
Describing the killing of the police officer as โneedless and uncalled forโ, the police spokesman said five suspects have been taken to custody for their alleged involvement in the crime, while a manhunt has been launched for the arrest of others.
He said the police are determined to bring all those involved in the act to justice.
