The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-month rehabilitation project on the busy Lekki–Ajah corridor, scheduled to begin on November 15, 2025, and end on July 15, 2026.
The state Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday, noting that preliminary works were already in progress. He said the project would be executed in two phases to minimise traffic disruptions and ensure smoother vehicular movement along the corridor.
According to Osiyemi, Phase One will cover the stretch from Lekki First Toll Gate to the Lekki Second Toll Gate, and construction will be divided into seven sections. During this stage, one of the two lanes will be closed to allow repairs, while the other will remain open to traffic. Upon completion of the closed lane, work will shift to the remaining section to maintain continuous movement for motorists heading towards Lekki and Ajah.
Phase Two, he explained, will run from Lekki Second Toll Gate to the Ajah Under-Bridge and will be executed in four sections. In this phase, traffic from Ajah inward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while repairs are ongoing on the other. Once work is completed on the first lane, construction will move to the second, ensuring that vehicles heading towards Ajah can still move without major interruptions.
Osiyemi appealed for the cooperation of road users throughout the rehabilitation period, urging them to adhere to traffic instructions and use designated diversion routes where necessary. He emphasised that the project forms part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to enhance road infrastructure and ease congestion in the Lekki–Ajah axis, which serves as a vital link between the island and mainland parts of Lagos.
