The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has confirmed that 18,045 new voters were registered between August and December 2025, marking the end of the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state.
Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, disclosed the figures on Tuesday during a consultative meeting with political party leaders and civil society organisations in Akure. She said the first phase of the CVR, which commenced on August 25, will conclude on December 10.
According to Babalola, INEC also processed 9,290 intra-state voter transfers and addressed 2,353 requests for data corrections within the period under review. Additionally, the commission resolved 3,725 cases of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while 1,838 uncollected PVCs were successfully distributed.
She described the outcomes as evidence of the collaborative commitment of political actors, civil society groups, and the electorate to ensuring a peaceful and efficient registration exercise. Babalola urged political party leaders to intensify voter education campaigns, particularly among young people and citizens who have yet to register.
She further appealed to individuals who have registered but not collected their PVCs to do so without delay, emphasising that broad voter participation strengthens democratic legitimacy.
The REC reiterated INEC’s readiness to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the success of subsequent electoral activities as preparations continue ahead of future polls. She also applauded civil society organisations for what she described as their tireless mobilisation and sensitisation efforts throughout the first phase of the CVR.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Ondo State, Adesanya Olaoluwa, commended INEC for sustained improvements in the CVR process and called for greater public participation in voter registration.
Representatives of the PDP, APM, AAC, LP, YPP, AA, PRP, NNPP, APP, SDP, Accord, ADC, APGA, Boot Party and ADP attended the consultative meeting.
