Residents and businesses across at least 22 elite communities in Ibadan are to endure daily power outages following an announcement by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) linking the disruption to ongoing road construction projects in the city.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, IBEDC said the outages are unavoidable, as construction activities along Foodco Road and Idi Isin have forced the relocation of critical electricity infrastructure in the affected areas.
The company explained that the relocation exercise will require the temporary shutdown of several electricity feeders, resulting in power interruptions lasting about three hours each day between Monday, January 5, and Friday, January 9, 2026.
Communities listed to be affected include Alalubosa GRA, Ogunkola, Museum, Akinola Maja, FRIN, Forestry College, Lead City, Lead British, House 18, Eleventh House, Commissionaire, Nursing Home, Sunrise and Post Housing.
Others are the AMI Complex, ODUA, Police Headquarters, Apampa, The Heavens, Blossom Heritage, Polo Club and Baale Akintayo—areas that host residential estates, commercial centres and key public institutions.
“Kindly be informed that due to ongoing road construction along Foodco Road, Idi Isin, Ibadan, IBEDC facilities and assets in the area are being relocated,” the company stated.
“Some feeders will be switched off for approximately three hours daily from Monday, January 5, 2026, to Friday, January 9, 2026,” it added, noting that both residential and premium customers will be impacted during the period.
The announcement comes amid persistent concerns by residents over frequent power disruptions in Ibadan, with many households and businesses already grappling with the high cost of alternative energy sources such as diesel and petrol-powered generators.
While apologising for the inconvenience, IBEDC appealed for patience from customers, stressing that the planned outages are temporary and necessary to safeguard its infrastructure and ensure improved power supply after the completion of the road works.
The company assured affected customers that electricity supply will be restored immediately after the daily shutdown periods and that efforts are being made to minimise disruption as much as possible.
