The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Fasina, has charged newly admitted students of the institution to deliberately build a strong foundation for their lives through responsible actions, sound choices, and unwavering moral values.
Fasina gave the charge while addressing 11,327 fresh students at the university’s matriculation ceremony, which was held simultaneously at the Oye Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti campuses. The event formally inducted the new intakes into the university community.
In his address, themed “Building a House on the Solid Rock,” the Vice-Chancellor emphasised that stability and long-term success in life could only be achieved when individuals lay solid personal and moral foundations.
According to him, values such as honesty, integrity, curiosity, love for learning, and resilience are indispensable to meaningful progress.
“No one can escape challenges,” Fasina said. “But through resilience, you can overcome difficulties and go places in life. A house that is built on the solid rock will stand strong, while the one built on the ground will fall. Let integrity guide your actions and choices.”
Describing matriculation as a covenant between the students and the institution, the Vice-Chancellor urged the new undergraduates to fully immerse themselves in campus life beyond lectures and examinations. He encouraged them to embrace volunteering, service, and intellectual engagement as part of their holistic development.
“The university is more than a place for lectures and examinations,” he said. “You must strive to volunteer, serve in different endeavours, and make yourselves wiser every day.”
Fasina congratulated the students on securing admission into FUOYE and challenged them to become worthy ambassadors of the institution by upholding discipline and excellence. He also reflected on the progress recorded by the university under his leadership, attributing the achievements to divine guidance and learning from experience.
“The journey has been smooth to the glory of God. I have learned many things and put my trust in God,” he added.
The matriculating students took the oath of allegiance, marking their official induction into the university and their commitment to the rules, responsibilities, and standards expected of FUOYE students.
The ceremony was attended by top university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tajudeen Opoola; the Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim; the Bursar, Dr. Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna; and the University Librarian, Dr. Olabode Olajide. Deans of faculties, staff members, parents, guardians, and other well-wishers were also present.
The event was disclosed in a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede, and made available to journalists on Monday.
