At least four people have lost their lives in a fatal accident involving several trucks, including a fuel tanker, on the Kara Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to a report by Channels Television, the crash occurred on Wednesday night and led to a major gridlock that grounded vehicular movement and left many commuters stranded.
Eyewitnesses told the station that one of the trucks, which was carrying yet-to-be-identified goods, veered off the road and rammed into the brick barricade of the bridge. The impact of the crash reportedly severed the head of the vehicle, sending it plunging into the river below.
One of the victims, said to be an occupant of one of the trucks, was burnt beyond recognition, while rescue efforts were ongoing as of the time the report was filed.
Sources further told Channels Television that some occupants of the severed truck were still missing as emergency responders continued their search.
