Fountain University has announced plans to graduate a total of 508 students at its 15th convocation ceremony, a landmark event the institution says will be celebrated with a week-long programme highlighting academic excellence, innovation and community engagement.

The announcement was made during a press briefing held on the university campus in Osogbo, Osun State, where the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ramota Karim, described the forthcoming convocation as a defining moment in the university’s steady growth and institutional resilience.

According to her, the ceremony represents more than a routine academic exercise, but a reflection of the institution’s sustained commitment to quality education and character development.

“It is with immense joy and gratitude to Allah that I present the 15th Convocation Ceremonies of Fountain University, a week dedicated to celebrating the academic achievements, resilience, and remarkable journeys of 508 graduands across sub-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate levels,” Professor Karim said.

She extended an open invitation to parents, alumni, stakeholders and members of the public to participate in the convocation activities, describing the period as one of reflection, celebration and renewed dedication to excellence.

Providing a breakdown of the graduating class, the Vice-Chancellor noted that 426 students will be awarded first degrees, while 81 will receive postgraduate qualifications. The postgraduate category includes the award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biological Sciences, with specialisation in Microbiology.

The undergraduate results, she revealed, comprise 43 First Class Honours graduates, 190 Second Class Upper Division, 135 Second Class Lower Division and 51 Third Class degree holders.

A major highlight of the ceremony, according to Professor Karim, is the graduation of the first cohort of students from the university’s Law programme, marking a historic milestone in the institution’s academic development.

“A landmark achievement for the University is the graduation of the first cohort of our Law Programme, consisting of 32 graduands, all of whom, by the grace of Allah, have successfully met the requirements and will gain admission into the Nigerian Law School this year,” she stated.

In addition, the university will also graduate six diploma students in Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Beyond student achievements, Professor Karim noted that the university recorded notable progress in research output and grant acquisition during the academic session.

She said several academic staff members secured reputable local and international research grants, a development she described as evidence of the university’s growing relevance within Nigeria’s higher education landscape and the global academic community.

Details of the convocation programme show that activities commenced with the press briefing on Wednesday, January 7, followed by a range of academic, social and spiritual engagements.

Scheduled events include sporting activities, entrepreneurship, research and innovation sessions showcasing Town-Gown-Industry collaboration on Thursday, January 8. A Walimatul-Qur’an ceremony celebrating the Qur’anic proficiency of 20 students is slated for Sunday, January 11, while a Merit Award Ceremony to honour outstanding staff, students, alumni and community stakeholders will hold on Monday, January 12.

The convocation lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, at 2:00 p.m. It will be delivered by Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan, FCIB, President and Founder of Sequoia Holdings Limited, with the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, serving as chairman of the occasion.

The week-long programme will climax on Wednesday, January 14, with the formal conferment of diplomas, first degrees and higher degrees on the 508 graduands, alongside the presentation of prizes and honorary recognitions.

Professor Karim reaffirmed Fountain University’s commitment to producing morally upright, intellectually sound and socially responsible graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
